“Writing well means never having to say, ‘I guess you had to be there.’” Jef Mallett

1234219_10200668175649026_420611166_nI graduated from Huntington University in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and history and a minor in non-western history. I currently work at Good News Magazine in The Woodlands, Texas, as an Editorial Assistant. I edit and write content, work with freelance writers and manage social media.

Prior to graduating, I served as the editor-in-chief for HU’s student newspaper, the Huntingtonian. In 2013, the Huntingtonian was awarded First Place with Special Merit by the American Scholastic Press Association. My Huntingtonian articles can be viewed on my portfolio.

My internships included working in the editorial department at the publishing company Our Sunday Visitor. I participated in planning, compiling and editing OSV’s national newsweekly. I also wrote articles for the newsweekly, which you can find at my portfolio (jessiisblogging.wordpress.com).

I also interned at STAR 88.3, a Christian radio station located in Fort Wayne, Ind. At STAR, I found information for the morning show, wrote web updates and managed volunteers at concerts. Prior to this, I was an intern at the Tallahassee Democrat in Tallahassee, Fla. I edited and wrote articles for the Northeast and Eastside Chronicles, and reported on and photographed an event for the Democrat.

I am competent in Adobe InDesign, InCopy, Photoshop and Audition. I also experiment in photography and shoot with a Canon Rebel. I enjoy traveling and have visited 14 countries. In my free time, I enjoy running, swimming, playing soccer, volunteering, doing missions work and spending time with my friends and family.
